DESKTOP GULL · PRIVACY
Desktop Gull Privacy Policy
Desktop Gull is a seagull that lives on your desktop. It learns almost nothing about you to do that, and what it does learn never leaves this Mac.
LAST UPDATED / 27 OCTOBER 2026What it reads
- Only the position and size of the windows on screen: that's how the gull knows where to land. It never reads what's in a window or what it's called.
- Where the Dock is and how big it is, from macOS's Dock preferences.
- Where the pointer is: when the gull grabs your cursor, it moves it for a moment.
- Whether the screen is locked, Low Power Mode is on or an app is in full screen: the gull rests then.
Permissions
By default it asks for no permission at all. If you turn on the optional Cheeky mode, it asks for Accessibility so it can drag other apps' windows a little, and uses it only to move windows.
What it keeps
Your settings are in macOS's preferences file and your Costume Pack license is in the Keychain. All of it on this Mac.
Network connections
Desktop Gull has no server, no account and no analytics. It goes online in two cases only:
- Update checks: once a day, Sparkle looks at the release list on eren.click. This sends standard request details such as your IP address and the app's version.
- The Costume Pack license, only if you bought the pack: your license key and your Mac's name are sent to Polar's license service (api.polar.sh) when you enter the key, and occasionally (about once a week) to check that it is still valid. Payment happens on Polar's page; your card details never reach the app or me.
