Dormouse Privacy Policy

Dormouse reads your MacBook's nights from macOS's own records and tells you about them. Everything it reads and keeps stays on this Mac.

LAST UPDATED / 27 OCTOBER 2026

What it reads

Reading these needs no administrator access and happens entirely on this Mac:

  • macOS's power log (pmset -g log): sleep and wake times, wake reasons, the names of processes that kept the Mac awake, and the battery percentage. macOS keeps this log for about a week.
  • Your sleep settings (pmset -g, pmset -g custom) and which settings this Mac lets you change (pmset -g cap).
  • The battery's condition: capacity and charge (IOKit).

What it keeps

  • An archive of your nights in ~/Library/Application Support/Dormouse/nights.sqlite, so you can see your history after macOS forgets its log.
  • The settings you changed and their previous values in changes.json in the same folder; undo uses it.
  • Your preferences in macOS's preferences file, your license in the Keychain.

Changing settings

Dormouse changes a setting only after you have seen the exact command in the review window and approved it, through macOS's administrator password prompt. The previous value is kept, and one step in Sleep settings undoes the change.

Notifications

The morning notification is optional and off by default. It is created on this Mac; it does not come from a server.

Network connections

Dormouse has no server, no account and no analytics; your power log and your nights are never sent anywhere. It connects to the internet for two things only:

  • License validation: your license key and your Mac's name are sent to Polar's license service (api.polar.sh) when you enter the key, and occasionally (about once a week) to check that it is still valid.
  • Update checks: once a day, Sparkle looks at the release list on eren.click. This sends standard request details such as your IP address and the app's version.

If you want to remove it

Move the app to the Trash and delete the ~/Library/Application Support/Dormouse folder. If you are moving a license to another Mac, choose “Remove from This Mac” in the license section of Settings first.
